Soy Isoflavones

Consumption of soy products has been associated with numerous health benefits. The Japanese diet, which we advocate as an essential part of Ray and Terry’s Longevity Program, includes soy products on a daily basis. The Japanese people who consume moderate amounts of soy products almost every day experience the longest lifespan of any people on earth. The primary ingredients in soy that leads to its health benefits are the soy isoflavones, genistein and daidzein. Our soy isoflavone supplement contains 10.73 mg of genistein and 22.25 mg of daidzein per capsule.

Among the many proven benefits of soy isoflavones:

# Decrease in cancer – Animal experiments have shown that soy protein consumption can lead to a 22 percent decrease in breast cancer, a 30 percent decrease in colon cancer and a 34 percent decrease in prostate cancer. # Reduce risk of heart disease – Soy has been proven to protect against heart disease and the FDA has allowed the following health claim about soy: "25 grams/day of soy protein, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease." The American Heart Association has officially recommended consumption of 25 grams or more of soy protein daily.

# Reduce menopause symptoms – Soy isoflavones are structurally similar to the human estrogen molecule. As a result they exert weak estrogenic effects. Many of the uncomfortable symptoms of menopause are due to decreased levels of estrogen and can be ameliorated by consuming soy products or taking soy isoflavones.

# Help prevent osteoporosis – By acting as a weak estrogen, soy isoflavones are able to stimulate bone formation and reduce the incidence of osteoporosis.

# Protect against prostate problems – Elevated levels of estrogen have been implicated as a risk factor in the development of prostate problems in men such as benign prosthetic enlargement and prostate cancer. By binding to estrogen receptors in the prostate, soy isoflavones are able to block the binding of natural estrogen and can help prevent these disease processes.

Dosage: One capsule, 1-2 times daily. This product contains 125 mg gross soy protein per capsule, standardized to yield 50 mg pure isoflavones per capsule.
